Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 28, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Word Counter & Scan ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our iOS application. By using our application, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Text Content You Provide
When you type, paste, or scan text into the app, this content is processed locally on your device. We do not upload, store, or transmit your text content to our servers or any third party. Text analysis (word count, readability scores, etc.) is performed entirely on-device.
1.2 Images for OCR Scanning
When you use the Camera or Photo Library scanning feature, images are processed using two methods depending on your device and settings:
- Apple Vision Framework (Primary): Images are processed entirely on your device using Apple's native Vision Framework. No images are uploaded to external servers. Text recognition happens locally, and images are not retained after processing.
- OCR.space API (Fallback): In certain cases where on-device recognition may be less accurate, images may be sent to OCR.space for text extraction. Images are transmitted over encrypted connections and are not permanently stored by OCR.space. For more details, see OCR.space Privacy Policy.
1.3 Device & Usage Data
We and our third-party partners may automatically collect:
- Device identifiers (IDFA, IDFV) for advertising and analytics
- Device model, OS version, and app version
- App usage statistics and crash logs
- In-app purchase and subscription status
1.4 Local App Data
We store your free OCR scan count and app preferences locally on your device. This data never leaves your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide core text analysis and word counting functionality
- Perform on-device OCR scanning using Apple's Vision Framework
- Manage your subscription status via RevenueCat
- Display personalized advertisements via Google AdMob
- Analyze app performance and fix bugs
- Enforce free scan limits for non-Pro users
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services that may collect data as described in their respective privacy policies:
- Google AdMob (Advertising): We use AdMob to serve banner and interstitial advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data for ad personalization. Google's Privacy Policy
- RevenueCat (Subscription Management): We use RevenueCat to manage in-app purchases and subscriptions. RevenueCat may collect purchase history, subscription status, and device identifiers. RevenueCat's Privacy Policy
4. Advertising & App Tracking Transparency
We display advertisements through Google AdMob. On iOS 14.5 and later, we request your permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework before accessing your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) for personalized ads.
You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time through your iOS device settings: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
5. Data Security and Retention
We prioritize the security of your data:
- Text Content: Never stored on our servers. All text remains on your device.
- Images: Processed on-device using Apple's Vision Framework when possible; otherwise sent to OCR.space over encrypted connections and not retained.
- Usage Data: Retained by our advertising and analytics partners per their respective policies.
- Subscription Data: Retained by RevenueCat for the duration of your subscription plus applicable legal retention periods.
- Local Storage: Stored locally until you delete the app.
All communication with third-party services is encrypted using industry-standard SSL/TLS technology.
6. Your Rights & Data Control
Depending on your location, you have rights to access, delete, or limit the use of your data:
- Access: All your text content is accessible within the app.
- Deletion: Delete the app to remove all locally stored data.
- Revoke Consent: Disable tracking via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Subscription Management: Manage or cancel subscriptions through iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
7. Children's Privacy
Our services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
